Sleep Medicine & Insomnia
Program Overview
Sleep disorders are underdiagnosed and significantly impact cardiovascular health, metabolic function, cognitive performance, and mental health. We evaluate patients presenting with insomnia, excessive daytime somnolence, and circadian rhythm disruption through a thorough clinical history.
When obstructive sleep apnea is suspected, we facilitate diagnostic testing and coordinate CPAP initiation or alternative therapies.
Assessment of sleep onset, maintenance, and early-morning awakening patterns. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is first-line; pharmacotherapy is used judiciously.
Clinical screening using validated questionnaires (STOP-BANG), facilitation of home sleep testing, and coordination of treatment including CPAP or oral appliance therapy.
Evaluation of shift-work disorder, delayed sleep phase syndrome, and jet lag with targeted interventions including chronotherapeutic protocols and light therapy.
Assessment of current medications that may contribute to sleep disturbance, with adjustment or substitution as clinically appropriate.
